us all waiting for the birthday boy to arrive... Aunt Kris had taken him on a birthday adventure because he was wanting a "surprise party". We'd tried to explain that it wasn't a surprise if he knew it was a surprise. He assured me we could pretend. So we did. and my little boy WAS surprised.
Matthew had requested that this year the theme be Bertie the Bus. (from Thomas). So I did my third "train"/first "bus" cake in a row for him. Bertie is supposed to be red, but I didn't get my icing right. It ended up more on the brown side. Matthew tells me "it's okay mom, it's just like Bertie is dirty and needs a wash down, that's all." He's so clever.
Aunt Kris and Uncle Brian got Matthew a puzzle... of HIMSELF! The coolest present however, was from Great-Grams. She gave Matthew a watch from my grandpa. It has a train that actually chugs around as the second hand. Matthew wore it for two hours after the party was over and didn't want to take it off. It's currently sitting in the Lionel case it came in, waiting for him to be ten. Which is when we told him he could start wearing it. He's very proud of this present. I am very touched. Thank you, Grams.
I think my sweet baby boy had a very cool birthday,
turning the very mature number five in Missouri this year!
