Happy Pottery Day, Dear

Jamie is very much into doing traditional gift giving for our anniversaries. He follows the "traditional list" for gifts and some how manages to find the exact appropriate gift for each year's requirement. For the paper anniversary, he got me tickets to see Phantom. For the silk anniversary, he was very crafty and got me a book series titled "The Daughters of Silk". It was a really good series too! Some seem easier to manage than others... the candy year was pretty straight forward. But this year was pottery. I have been talking about wanting RED canisters for a long time now. In fact, I hinted them for my mother's day gift I think last year but neither of us could ever locate any.... they remained the elusive red canisters... until now! Look! Jamie found red canisters and managed to give them to me on our pottery anniversary. Squeee!

I'm not so good with the theme giving...
but I HAD to get this beautiful picture for Jamie's new office.
It's one of his life verses.

And if you count the modern-ish pottery there,
I did manage to unknowingly pick up pottery after all  as I also adorned
his new window ledge with a new bamboo plant! How about that!

Here's us last night, self taken, ready to celebrate with Olive Garden dinner.

And here's just a couple from that same night, 8 years ago.

Happy Pottery Day, Dear!
I love you!
I'm so blessed to be your wife!

Seven Years

Wow. Seven years. It doesn't feel like it's been that long already. And in some cases, it feels like it might as well be ten... with all we've gone through, all that's happened. Seven years ago today, I met the man of my dreams at the alter and through happy tears of love and joy promised to love him forever.

Thank you Lord Jesus for allowing me to have the kind of husband that Jamie is. Thank you for bringing such a man of character to my life. Thank you for letting him love and cherish me. Thank you Lord, for allowing us to have children and grow a family. Help me to be the kind of wife he needs day in and day out. Help me to be like it says in Ps. 128:3 where the wife is a fruitful vine in the home. Let me be a fruitful vine. Bless us today, Dear Lord and grant us many more years together. Thank you for his love. Thank you even more, for your love. Thank you for the cross. Thank you for your Son. Amen.

Six

Six. Half a dozen. ... I can't believe it. Has it really been six years already? Today is our six year anniversary. The candy year. (following traditional gifts) Six. That seems like a lot. More than five. Sure it's not ten or twenty or fifty, but still... six is a good long while. Six years ago I was in college (heh) and slender (ha) and living in MO (ahem) and just excited about being able to start a new portion of my life with my husband. But look at all that has happened in six years. ....

we moved to GA,
we found a great and wonderfully supportive church and acquired a church family,
we got a cat,
we suffered great loss of loved ones,
we were able to support my best friend with her first beautiful child-- a boy,
we had a beautiful baby boy,
we survived Jamie traveling more than 18 months away for week at a time repeatedly,
we witnessed my dad battle cancer and get his prostrate removed,
we moved again,
I was able to go and support my best friend giving birth to her second beautiful child--a girl,
we suffered personal loss,
we were blessed again with another beautiful boy,
we gave the cat to a happier home for him,
we watched my sister know the joy of being engaged to someone who loves her dearly,
I was able to witness the birth of another sweet friend's beautiful girl's arrival,
we knew loss again,
we witnessed my sister graduating and becoming a Doctor,
and now we're expecting again--a miracle.
(of course so much more has happened in between these)

We have traveled in these six years to Hawaii, Mexico, Grand Cayman Islands, Helen GA, Nashville TN, Myrtle Beach SC, Charleston SC, Nashville GA, St. Louis of course and KC MO *both too many times to count*, Breckenridge CO, Florida...

In the next year alone we are looking forward to another sweet baby to come join us and my sister to become a bride. I'm praying daily for my dad to overcome his battles of cancer.

I love my life. I love being Jamie's wife. I can not wait to see what's in store for us in the next six years.

Happy anniversary, love.

Five years...

I can close my eyes and see moments of my wedding day flash before me. It is hard to believe that it's been 5 years tomorrow. If you care to read about them... I'm going to share some of my wedding memories...

~I remember so many moments of heroism from my best friend, Nic, as she tried to make the day without a glitch for me. She was my secretary, my chauffeur, my companion, my dress carrier, my veil straightener, my "wing man", if you will. She was everything I needed that day from a person who gave of herself completely for me.
~I can see a circle of men standing around Jamie when I got to the church, shielding him from seeing me.
~I can see my best friend's husband standing guard the front stairs to make sure no one interrupted the wedding before ours (oh yes).
~I can remember someone's voice, I can't rememebr who... wait, Loretta? Maybe maybe Loretta saying to my mom "Austin's here" and my eyes wide trying to wrap my brain around what that meant, and the tears that came after that when I was told that yes, my great grandpa had been brought to my wedding day, even though I'd been told that he wasn't going to make it, I was beyond emotional about it.
~I can remember seeing Jamie's face as he watched me walk down the aisle. One thing I've never asked him about-- was I wonder what he must have thought or felt, when I stopped, mid aisle. ... seriously, I didn't make it all the way down the aisle... I could not pass my great-grandpa. I'm sure it isn't "done" but I could not pass him. I stopped, lifted my veil and kissed his cheek. He told me to be a good little girl (as he'd always done my whole life) and patted my hand, sending me on my way down the aisle, at my daddy's arm, to meet my future husband.
~I remember the floral shop messed up and didn't have a pink single rose in their order for my great-grandma yet some how when I got to the end of the aisle, there was one right beside the communion plates in her honor. I still don't know how it got there....
~I remember my sister couldn't make it through Candyss' song. I remember her small sniffles get louder as the song went on during our unity candle ordeal. I remember frozen in fear, as I watched the eyes of each groomsmen get wider and wider as Kris could. not. pull it together standing just behind me, holding my flowers as I held Jamie's hands. I didn't know what to do, I knew I didn't want to interrupt the song, but as soon as it was over, I turned and handed her my handkerchief so she could wipe her eyes. For whatever reason, this made the whole place erupt into laughter and we were able to carry on. It's one of my favorite memories actually. I love you Kris. I know I'll be a blubbering idiot at your wedding some day, and I bet I'm way worse than you were at mine. (like that would surprise anyone)
~I remember Peter saying "I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride." and the first chords of our song started playing...

I'm so thankful for that day. As crazy and stressful as it was, as uptight and anxious as I was, I wouldn't trade my wedding day for anything. It was the day that I became part of Mr and Mrs Jamie Hobbs. I'm so blessed. I can not believe it's been five years. Five years seems like a long time. Man, in five years of marriage we've moved twice. Jamie's changed jobs twice. We have two beautiful boys. ... hmmm, there is a theme, in five years, apparently things happen in twos. haha

Thank you Jamie. Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for loving me... Thank you for allowing me to be your wife. And thank you for the punch at the reception. (wink)

.... if you'd like more mushy-ness, you should read Four Years, written last year about this time. Not nearly as lengthy, and not about the wedding day itself either. Just a short poem for Jamie.

Four years

I'm not much of a poet, and sadly it doesn't rhyme all the way through, but oh well...

Four years ago yesterday I married my best friend.
I became a help-meet for a man who God had designed for me.
Four years ago yesterday my life stopped being my own.
I'm now part of a unity instead of living just for me.
Four years ago I never knew just how much my life would change.
I had no idea what it would mean to belong to someone else.
Four years ago I never knew just how much love would come my way.
I had no idea what it would mean to carry and birth his children.
No one had told me that my heart could break and be glued back together larger.
No one had told me that my love for him would keep getting stronger.
I'm so blessed beyond my wildest dreams.
I love you Jamie. I love being yours.
